Looking Up
KJV Acts 1:11
Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
When Jesus resurrected, He appeared to many people for forty days. After commissioning His disciples, they were able to witness Him ascending to heaven. Two angels came to the disciples as they were gazing up to heaven. They promised that this same Jesus who had walked on earth with them, eaten with them, broken bread with them would come the same way as He had ascended to heaven. That is in bodily form.
This promise still stands today. As God’s people wait for His return , He desires that they shall fix their eyes heavenward. While the attention of worldlings is turned to various enterprises, ours should be to the heavens; our faith should reach further and further into the glorious mysteries of the heavenly treasure, drawing the precious, divine rays of light. Preparing and encouraging others to be ready to meet with the Lord when He comes.
The scoffers mock the waiting, watching ones, and inquire: “Where is the promise of His coming? You have been disappointed.. Get gain, get money, and be honored of the world.” The waiting ones look upward and answer: “We are watching.” And by turning from earthly pleasure and worldly fame, and from the deceitfulness of riches, while allowing Jesus to sanctify and make them wholly, they show themselves to be in that position. Amen.
I pray that when He comes He will find us watching and looking up. That we will not give Satan a chance to discourage and dissuade us but we will remain grounded in His word. The truth is that He is coming whether we are ready on not: whether we believe it or not, He sure will come. His word is true. He came the first, He will come again, and He who has promised is faithful.
Amen
